Pink Tax, Period/TamponTax and Diaper Tax…what is it?

Pink tax is the difference in cost for products for women compared to the cost of products for men, such as razors, shaving cream, sanitary products etc.

Period tax and diaper tax is the tax put on necessary products for women and children. Many believe that products for menstrual use as well as diapers for children should not be taxed. Taxing such products make it more difficult for women to be able to afford when they are inevitable to everyday life.

Today CVS announced that they will be lowering the price of sanitary products for women by 25% in 13 (Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin) states and will also be covering the sales tax in 12 states (Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin).

As of 2021, five states — Arkansas, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon — had no sales tax. At the same time, 15 states exempted period products from sales tax: California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah and Washington. Texas considers menstrual products as "wound care" and continues to charge sales tax.

Shoutout to CVS for not only recongnizing that being a woman is difficult within itself but attempting to do something to help with the costly burden of being a woman with a reproductive system.
